Interested in Being Part of The Festival….?

Each year the Southside Festival entertains some 15,000 people from the local community and it’s surrounding environs.  This massive undertaking is performed by a small number of volunteers who give up a couple of days per week to plan and promote the event.

Last year we managed to become involved a Charity Cricket Match in aid of flood victims in Pakistan, Govanhill Fun day as well as numerous promotional days at the Queens Park Farmers Market, Shawlands Arcade and the Clydesdale Boat Regatta on the River Clyde. We undertake leaflet drops all over the southside and hold participation events to help generate interest in the festival. We also arrange afternoon and evening events at the Glasshouses (Halloween, Santa’s Grotto along with numerous gigs and Art in the Park).

To top it of we also organise the finale that is jam packed with fun and entertainment for all ages and includes; a main stage for live music, dance and comedy; Numerous marquees filled with, arts, crafts, dance, fitness and relaxation;  Displays from the Vintage Fire Engine Society, Strathclyde Fire Brigade, LES and the Owl Experience; Free bus service and a number of inflatable slides, along with climbing wall and the ever popular face painting.  Also available on the day is an opportunity to purchase some of the fine local produce produced in and around the southside and the chance to sit back and relax over a cold drink in the licensed marquee.

As the festival has grown so to has the demand for volunteers to help steward the event and this is were we need your help.  If you are over 18, and interested in becoming a Steward then we would love to hear from you.  All we ask is for you give up one day of your time (or two if you are willing to help out on the Sunday 27th!) to help steward the main event on Saturday 26th May.  Without volunteers to steward the event the work of the Steering Group would be done in vain.  Thus this mutually important role is crucial to the smooth running of the festival and the safety of its visitors.

If you are interested then please come along to the Participate event tomorrow – Monday from 7.30pm 19th of March @ Govanhill Baths, 99 Calder Street, Glasgow, G42.  If you can’t make this meeting then don’t worry you can always get in touch through the enquiry form – we will be in touch to acknowledge your request and invite you to a Stewards Meeting to go over the festival layout, the role you will adopt and answer any questions you may have.

    • Hi Blair,

The Festival Steering Group are always keen to provide local businesses an opportunity to get involved in the Festival. Available pitches are in limited supply and at this late stage they have all been allocated. Can I ask that if you are still interested that you submit an enquiry via the form on this site and we will be in touch for next year.

      regards
      SSF

    • Hi Iona. Thanks for getting in touch. I will pass your request to Kevin Kelly the steering group member who is responsible for organising the procession. Can’t wait to see it this year as we recon it will be nearly double the size of the procession last year.
