A festival with a big reach and an even bigger heart!

Did you visit the Queens Park Farmers Market today? If so you would have seen our Volunteers having a rip roaring time promoting this years festival to the bemusement of fellow stall holders and visitors alike. Kids were constantly entertained by our team of balloon twisters and never let down when a distant pop meant they needed another. Granted our balloon twisting skills were limited but this simply added to the atmosphere of the day. Who knows what we will be able to cobble together now we have discovered ‘
fewdoit’. That said if your following this then you could learn to create a balloon model and show us a thing or two. We supply the Balloons. You supply the talent.
Balloon modelling wasn’t the only activity on offer and passers by also participated in ‘taking a hit for the Southside Festival’ an activity that brought a smile to the GCC Markets lads – as pictured.
Opportunities like this are great to provide a public face for the festival and helps compliment our activities on this site, our Facebook page and Twitter feed. So if you missed out this time then you will be glad to know “we will be back!” So stay tuned for further updates on further appearances at the Farmers Market and the gigs we host at the Glad Cafe and Queens Park Glasshouses.
Volunteering opportunities 2013
March 15, 2013
If the procession is not your thing then there are plenty of other ways in which you can get involved. Each year we have to recruit a number of Stewards/Marshals to undertake various tasks around the festival grounds and in particular to ensure that public safety is maintained. As a Steward you will guide festival goers around the the 9.5 acre site and control access to restricted areas. Last year official estimates put visitor numbers in the region of 35000 and coupled with the weather resulted in a tremendous atmosphere that everyone enjoyed – including our Stewards. This is your opportunity to become part of Glasgow’s largest community run festival. If you would like to volunteer then lease complete our online form and we will get back to you with further details
All we ask is for you give up one day of your time to help steward the event either on the 18th or 19th of May. Without volunteers to steward the event the work of the Steering Group would be done in vain. Thus this mutually important role is crucial to the smooth running of the festival and the safety of its visitors.
Follow the “let me volunteer” link and register your interest today or register your interest on our enquiry form from the tab above. Why not ask a friend to join you!
Southside Festival Procession 2013 – We Want You!
March 14, 2013
It is that time again when the Southside Festival is looking to organise the procession. The procession is one of the focal points of the festival and on its arrival to the festival grounds at Queens Park Recreation Grounds marks the start of the Southside Festival.
If you are a group, organisation or individual and wish to promote yourself and or your activities then we would love to hear from you. Being part of the procession can be a colourful way to get your message across and an opportunity to meet and network with others in the community.
If you are interested and wish to become part of the procession on the 18th May then please complete the online form as soon as possible and we will be in touch with more details in the very near future.
Please note that the route is approximately 1.9 miles in length and follows the route from Newlandsfield Road onto Kilmarnock Road and on through Shawlands. From there the procession continues along Pollokshaws Road and turns right at Alison Street till it joins Victoria Road. From there the procession turns right and continues up toward the gates of Queens Park where it takes a left turn to continue up Queens Drive till it reaches the the Festival site in Queens Park Recreation Grounds at the Grange Road entrance. Members of the procession will then be guided toward the area infront of the main stage to allow any vehicular traffic to pass through the festival site. view route in google maps http://goo.gl/maps/YnvaE
